Don’t miss Thursday June 13 at the Loft - southern Ontario is coming north!

Two veteran indie darlings of the Canadian DIY scene are making the long drive up to present an evening of the finest freak folk the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal circuit has to offer. Representing Toronto is cellist/singer songwriter Eliza Niemi, departing on a Canada-US tour with a full band (and dual-cello) lineup. Representing the Ottawa-Montreal corridor is Pith, a folk rock quartet fronted by part-time Sooite Chris Love.

Come out and discover some new sounds, and help us send off Eliza & her band up the 17 in style!

Eliza Niemi (TO):

Our earliest exposures to music can often be the most formative. For Toronto-based artist Eliza Niemi, that influence came from her Dad who taught her the basics of music at home. Playing together by ear instilled in her craft a sense of playfulness, and a focus on making music with loved ones. Those honed skills make Eliza an ideal collaborator: starting in Halifax’s rich music scene with the mid-2010s groups New Love Underground and Mauno, and later in her role supporting Debby Friday, Quaker Parents, Jonah Yano, Poolblood and Evan J. Cartwright.

Pith:

Pirh is an indie folk rock band that’s been a fixture of Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and the Soo for over 10 years. Across a discography of 3 full-length LPs, we've honed our sound into a unique blend of experimental and singer-songwriter cosmic country. We've played multiple instalments of the Ottawa Bluesfest Festival, local favourites like the Side-by-Side Fest, and shared stages with acts like Suuns, Boyhood, and other heavy hitters of the Canadian DIY circuit. Currently touring the material of our forthcoming 4th album “Guinevere”, Pith remains anchored by the effects-drenched nylon string and emotive Downie-esque lyricism of songwriter Chris Love, now backed with a 4-piece psych-folk lineup (for fans of Dylan, Leonard, Animal Collective, Flying Burrito Brothers…) We could not be more stoked to share this new material with our friends & family in the Soo!
