Courtney McDonald

Courtney McDonald has been performing since the age of 8, eventually landing at The Algoma Conservatory of Music where she received vocal training based on the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum. During her high school years, she expanded her artistic pursuits through involvement with Stage 1 Theatre Company, developing a passions for both music and theatre.

Inspired by these early experiences, Courtney pursued formal studies in the performing arts and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Algoma University, specializing in Classical Voice. Upon graduation she was recognized with the university’s Award of Excellence in Music. During her time at Algoma University, she was actively involved in theatre productions, choir performances, and the Jazz Ensemble as a vocalist.  

Following her undergraduate studies, Courtney completed a Certificate in Independent Music Production at Seneca College in Toronto. There, she developed expertise in songwriting, recording, music business, and music marketing. Her professional experience includes several years of private vocal instruction, as well as serving as the Trades and Events Coordinator for the North by Northeast Music, Film & Conference Festival (NXNE).

Courtney's performance experience spans a wide range of musical and theatrical disciplines. She has sung with St. Luke's Cathedral Choir, including performances in several notable cathedrals throughout England, and has performed as a soprano with the Algoma Festival Choir. As a contemporary musician, she sings and plays bass guitar with Eli Russell & The River Fools. Her theatre credits include leading roles in productions such as The Andrews Brothers, The Mousetrap, The 39 Steps, and Between Heartbeats.

A passionate advocate for the arts in Northern Ontario, Courtney is a founding member of Algoma Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.) and continues to contribute to the vibrant theatre community in Sault Ste. Marie.

With experience across classical, contemporary, choral, jazz, and theatrical performance, Courtney brings a versatile and well-rounded approach to music and theatre education. She is passionate about helping students discover their unique voice, build confidence, and cultivate their own artistic and creative potential.
