Excellence in Music Education Since 1971
Welcome to the Algoma Conservatory of Music. We are a non-profit music school affiliated with Algoma University. Over the years we have grown into one of the largest and finest music schools in Ontario. From our professional faculty, to our many youth and community ensembles - there is hardly a music event in Sault Ste Marie that does not include one of our many resident instructors or the students that they train. Many of our faculty have relocated to Sault Ste Marie from across Canada to teach at the Conservatory, and through Algoma University's Music Department. They bring their performance and teaching experience to hundreds of students every year.
A full range of group classes are offered for young children, including MusicTime and Music Readiness, as well as private and group vocal and instrumental lessons for all ages. In addition there is a selection of community ensembles from youth orchestras to bands for adults. Students also have many performance opportunities in our new third floor venue - The Loft - and the ability to produce professional quality video and audio recordings in - The Studio, also on the 3rd floor.
The Conservatory also presents a full season of mixed-genre performances, the Sault Ste Marie Music Festival Competition where students perform for guest adjudicators, reasonably priced instrument rentals, as well as the sale of top quality Yamaha Upright, Grand and Digital Pianos with deep community discounts.
The Conservatory's extensive music education and performance programs are maintained through support of Canadian Heritage, the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Sault Ste Marie, and many of our community's businesses and individuals.
