Dr. Anne Louise-Turgeon

Dr. Anne Louise-Turgeon is an instructor of piano and cello at the Algoma Conservatory and Algoma University. She teaches piano and theory at all levels, and shares her additional interest in string pedagogy through instruction of junior and intermediate cello. In addition she is a very active performer having been featured recently on Algoma Conservatory Concerts with violinist Lara St. John and the Cecilia String Quartet. Anne relocated to Sault Ste. Marie in 2013 as part of Duo Turgeon, the husband-and-wife piano duo with Dr. Edward Turgeon. Duo Turgeon is Algoma University's Artist-In-Residence. They have established themselves as one of North America's prominent piano duos, having performed hundreds of concerts at such venues as the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Yong Siew Toh Concert Hall (Singapore), New World Symphony, Music Toronto, Ford Center Algoma Conservatory Concerts with violinist Lara St. John and the Cecilia String Quartet.tival (12-concert Russian tour), San Francisco International Chamber Festival, Minsk Philharmonic, New York Summer Music Festival, Festival Duettissimo, Chicago Duo Piano Festival, Sanibel Chamber Festival, Chopin Society, Norfolk Chamber Festival, Massey Hall (Toronto) and numerous other venues throughout North America.

The duo has been heard on numerous radio programs including CBC's "Arts National" and "Sound Advice", the latter awarding 5 out of 5 stars for the duo's recording "Latin American Journey" on Marquis/EMI. Prolific recording artists, the Turgeons can be heard on seven CD's, with two new ones on the way. They have been heard on most major North American radio stations including WGBH (Boston), WFMT (Chicago), WPR (Wisconsin Public Radio), MPR (Minnesota Public Radio), WQXR and WNYC (New York City), and NPR's "Performance Today" (several appearances). International broadcasts include Dutch Public Radio, BBC II and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. They are featured performers in the television documentary "Two Pianos One Passion" appearing numerous times on PBS affiliate stations throughout the U.S.A.

Duo Turgeon received high praise from critics, including Stephane Villemin who singled them out as "one of the top four or five piano duos in the world today". They have been designated "Artist of the Month" and "Top 10 Chamber Music Category" from CBC's "Galaxie", appearing in the French book "The Great Pianists and the Piano". American Record Guide centered out Duo Turgeon as "performing with hypnotic intensity"

The Turgeons completed undergraduate degrees in piano performance at the University of Toronto, and graduate degrees in piano performance at Yale University School of Music, culminating with doctor of musical arts (DMA) degrees. Anne's teachers included Boris Berman at Yale, Marietta Orlov at University of Toronto, and Marek Jablonski at the Banff Centre for Music and Sound. Edward's teachers included Peter Frankl at Yale, James Anagnoson (of the renowned Canadian duo "Anagnoson and Kinton") at University of Toronto, and Marek Jablonski at Banff. The Turgeons received additional instruction from Karl Ulrich Schnabel and Peter Serkin in New York.

Duo Turgeon are the only North American piano duo to have taken first prizes in both the International Schubert Competition for Piano Duos (Czech Republic) and the Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition (Miami). They have given world premiere performances of works by John Corigliano, Aaron Copland, Alex Pauk and Libby Larsen.

The Turgeons have enjoyed serving as piano faculty and ensemble-in-residence at Florida Atlantic University's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters in Boca Raton, Florida. They are Honorary Presidents of the World Piano Teachers Association (Florida), in addition to serving on judging panels for several competitions including the International Franz Liszt Duo Piano Competition (Chicago), the Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition, Canadian Music Competition, and the Isidor Bajic International Piano Competition. In 2005 they were invited to join Steinway's roster of international artists.
