Dr. Rob Ollikkala

Music Theory
Dr. Ollikala is active as both a piano and theory instructor with students of all levels at the Conservatory as well as through Algoma University. Hereceived an Associate in Piano Pedagogy from the Western Conservatory; a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music from the University of Western Ontario; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Musicology with specialization in Ethnomusicology from the University of Illinois. He also received Suzuki Teacher Training at Mount Royal College in Calgary.
Awards have included the Gold Medal for highest mark in Associate examinations from the Western Conservatory, a Doctoral Fellowship for research in India and scholarships to the University of Western Ontario and the University of Illinois. He has taught a variety of courses at the Western Conservatory, University of Western Ontario, University of Illinois, University of Alberta, King's University & Alberta College of Music in Edmonton.
In addition to his work at the Conservatory he he teaches Music Theory, World Music, Native Music, The Sociology of Music, Romantic Music, Twentieth-Century Music, and Studio Piano at Algoma University. He spends much of his spare time camping, fishing, hiking and cross-country skiing.
