Josh Norling began studying music late in high school during grade 12 at Korah Collegiate & V.S. here in Sault Ste Marie, studying privately on saxophone with Lynne Reville. Quickly learning the trade, and learning as many styles of music as possible, became top priority: playing with the high school concert band, local jazz groups and blues musicians, The Sault Swing Band, the school’s Motown and Soul group Mustang Sally, and a few other projects.
Upon graduating, Josh attended Algoma University for four years, studying with Val Suriano. Transferring to Laurentian University for his final honours year, studying with Allan Walsh.
Since completing his degree, Josh has maintained an active performance schedule as a freelance saxophonist and bassist. With over 20 albums in his discography as a sideman, he is also currently in the process of composing his first album of original Jazz as a leader.
