Matthew Schumacher

Matthew Schumacher is a 4th-year student at Algoma University, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Music and Psychology. Growing up in Wawa, Matthew began honing his piano skills at an early age and studied with Dr. Anne Louise Turgeon during high school. Upon starting university, he continued his musical training under Dr. Edward Turgeon and Dr. Andree-Ann Deschenes. In 2019, he was selected to compete at the Ontario Music Festivals Association (OMFA) at RCM level 9.

Playing a wide range of genres, from Classical to Jazz to Latin, Matthew recently discovered a passion for jazz through his involvement with the Algoma University Jazz Ensemble. Having completed all his music requirements, he plans to attend teachers' college after graduation and is eager to begin teaching at the Algoma Conservatory of Music this year. With over 15 years of piano experience, Matthew looks forward to sharing his passion for music through teaching.
