After graduation, Nicholas enrolled at Algoma University with a major in music. These mentors provided key direction regarding professional performance and technique.

During his first year in university, Nicholas formed the band Aldous. Luck was the songwriter and singer of the band performing alternative rock and pop songs at local festivals and venues. The band recorded 5 songs in the studio.

In second year, Aldous disbanded and Nicholas began majoring in singer songwriting with instruction from local musical artist Frank Deresti with the aim to pen a number of songs to be performed at the end of the year for a juried recital. Luck's composition direction began shifting from alternative rock to a jazz + classical inspired pop sound. Nicholas performed with fellow music majors and held the show at the Algoma Conservatory of Music.

After completion of his second year at Algoma University, Nicholas decided to change his surroundings. Luck moved from Sault Ste. Marie to Toronto. In Toronto, Nicholas enrolled at York University for one year learning Free Improvisation with Brian Katz, as well as composition, advanced music theory, and digital recording.
