Malia Kirk has been part of the local music scene in Sault Ste. Marie for many years, beginning on the violin at the age of seven, before discovering her love of the piano. Her time at Algoma University has broadened her horizons to the worlds of voice, musical theatre, jazz ensemble, and four-hand piano. With a performance style ranging from the classical works of Haydn to delightful jazz inspired tunes, she particularly enjoys romantic period pieces, such as Chopin’s nocturnes, that provide movements of solace amidst a chaotic world.
Lily Kuti-Surányi, originally from Southern Ontario and now New Brunswick, has been studying the piano for nearly a decade. She greatly enjoys learning works from the romantic and early contemporary periods, in addition to film and media soundtracks. With a love for ensemble music and composing, she is pursuing a career in composition and accompaniment.
Formed in 2023, the KirKuti Duo has worked on pieces from composers such as Brahms, Moszkowski, and most recently, Mozart. The challenges of duet playing have further refined their solo work, while strengthening their musicianship through artistic expression, partnership, and most importantly, fun! :) Brought together by AU Music, this duo will continue to collaborate long after completing the program.
